Manual Osteopathy, in simplest terms, is the use of various forms of manual therapy to assist the body in getting back to its self-healing, self-regulating state. This type of therapy is concentrated on finding the root of the problem, opposed to focusing on the problem area specifically, by acknowledging the importance of the interrelationship of all body systems and then assisting in finding their balance.

Each treatment may include a variety of techniques including: osteoarticular corrections, joint mobilizations, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, lymphatic drainage, and/or visceral manipulation. This treatment is performed clothed but on the skin contact may be deemed necessary; clothing that allows for appropriate joint mobility and assessment is a requirement.

Manual Osteopathy may assist in the treatment of chronic pain, TMJD, digestive conditions, limited joint mobility, repetitive strain/sport related injuries (tendinitis, etc), post-surgical rehabilitation, headaches/migraines, post-concussion symptoms, respiratory issues, women’s reproductive conditions (PMS related symptoms, hormonal changes, etc) and more.

Alyssa started her practice as a massage therapist, graduating from MacEwan University in 2017. Very early on in her career she was introduced to various holistic methods of treatment which influenced her continuous drive to find the “outside the box” type therapies to add to her practice. After nearly a decade of experience in manual therapy, and many continuing education courses later, she went back to school and completed her Diploma of Manual Osteopathy in 2024 at the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada.

Alyssa believes that client education is an essential part of treatment; empowering her clients so that they can take the lead in their healing journey is an important part of her practice. As she works towards transitioning her practice over to Manual Osteopathy, she looks forward to collaborating with the Boreal team to best serve our Winnipeg community! Alyssa is fully registered with the Canadian Massage & Manual Osteopathic Association of Canada and her services are billable to all insurances providers EXCEPT Canada Life at this time.

If she’s not in the clinic, you’ll likely hear she’s somewhere across the country competing in 5 pin bowling tournament with her husband or back visiting her hometown of St. Albert, Alberta.
